Square Numbers and Square Roots

I don't ever remember learning that square numbers actually FORM squares in array multiplication.

As a consequence, I never learned that the SQUARE ROOT of a number is the side length of a square with that number's area.

I think it is one of the most elegant concepts I get to teach my 7th graders each year.

I tell them this, too.
